Did you know that
WQPT
has been serving the Quad Cities and surrounding areas
for
more than
20
years? On November 2, 1983 WQPT signed on the air for the first time.
This event was the culmination of years of planning by people like
Robert Fletcher
and Chuck Laws of Black Hawk College along with original board
members Evelyn and Harold Perlmutter, Greta Marshall, William
Dailey, Sam Gilman,
Robert Keller, Dewey Nelson and Lucias Vargas. Community leaders
Henry Hook and John Decker, and the board of the Greater Quad
Cities Telecommunications
Corporation soon joined them.
WQPT is licensed to Black
Hawk College and operated by a staff of 18; by the Board
of Trustees of the college, along with the community advisory board
of the Greater Quad Cities Telecommunications
Corporation (Board of Directors), providing guidance and oversight
for the station.
Over the past 21 years WQPT has grown and today over half a million
TV viewers have access to our programming though open-air signals or
local cable systems. We also provide many non-broadcast educational
services, as well as college credit through Black
Hawk College. You
may learn about employment opportunities and view our public
files for
more information about the station. We encourage you to explore our
website to discover the wide variety of services and information we
offer.
It’s an exciting time for public broadcasting and we are glad
you have discovered our website. You can support WQPT-Quad Cities PBS
in a variety of ways, from volunteering,
providing financial support as a member or business
partner, your participation
and others like you
are vital to our continued success. We welcome your comments and suggestions,
please feel free to contact
us.
WQPT
broadcasts a digital, as well as an analog, signal. We recently
completed our federally mandated conversion to digital technology.
WQPT will strive to provide more and more programming, educational
opportunities, and information to our viewers in Eastern Iowa and Western
Illinois.
Thanks for tuning into WQPT—your local PBS station.
