The Best is Yet to Come

In November WQPT began its 27th year as your regional public television broadcaster. We begin this new broadcast year with exciting new plans for the future.

Within the next few months, WQPT will become affiliated with Western Illinois University-Quad Cities. The process has been started with the Federal Communications Commission to transfer the station's operating license from Black Hawk College to Western Illinois University.

This new chapter in our history allows WQPT to return to our mission of creating more local programs for you. Soon we will unveil a new weekly public affairs program; the second season of our children's exercise program, Get Movin', will be produced; and local documentaries and stories will be coming your way.

Having been with WQPT for over twenty years, it is hard to not compare the beginnings of the station with this new chapter in our history. In the early 1980's a group of educators and civic leaders took a leap of faith and brought a passion for educational and entertaining programming to the table. I believe those original visionaries who created WQPT all of those years ago would be delighted by this new opportunity for WQPT to expand our mission and impact our community and the entire region in new and exciting ways. We're grateful for our long-standing partnership with Black Hawk College.

We are excited about this new relationship with Western Illinois University-Quad Cities, and to Dr. Joe Rives who heads the Quad Cities campus of Western Illinois University. We also thank Black Hawk College Interim President Gene Gardner and the Board of Trustees for working with us during this transition, and of course, for providing us a home and much support over the past 26 years. And we wouldn't have gotten to this point without the hard work of WQPT's volunteer board of directors, currently chaired by Kathy Michel, as well as our very dedicated staff.

Last, but certainly not least, we thank you for supporting WQPT for all these years. The best is yet to come!
