Here our Top 10 List of tips for
parents, families and others
1) Every child grows at his/her own pace. Make sure that the activities you provide for your children are "developmentally appropriate" for their age and abilities.
2) A family is a child's first teacher, and a child's home is the first classroom. A warm, nurturing environment and routine is ideal for learning.
3) Children learn by doing and learning. Engage children and encourage them to explore and discover the world around them.
4) Children take pride in learning new things, making friends and developing independence. Help your child develop confidence in a challenging world through positive messages and tasks he/she can accomplish.
5) Early relationships are building blocks. Help your children build trust and confidence in others by surrounding them with secure, nurturing and responsive adults.
6) Children are copycats and learn through the actions of others. Let them "model" your behaviors and grow through kindness, cooperation, generosity and caring for others.
7) Children learn through repetition and variety. Repetition in different forms also increases the chance of reaching kids with different learning styles.
8) Children learn language at different rates and times. Talk with your child, share stories, play games... keep communicating in a variety of ways.
9) Children make sense of new information by fitting it into what they already know. For instance, a child understands better what happens at the post office after he/she receives a letter or postcard.
10) Children's emotional development impacts learning. Help children express their frustrations and failures as they learn patience and persistence.
