The Military Workforce Symposium was held Friday, November 7.

WQPT's Military Workforce Symposium was a FREE EVENT open to all members of the military community including Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, Veterans, Retired Military and Military Spouses. The event is an opportunity to learn about education, training and employment within our community. The event included Active Job Fair, education, resource booths and workshops for: Building your Resume; Continued and Technical Education Opportunities and Resources; Information on Volunteering and Building a Network.

Veterans as Assets

At the symposium, Jamie Lange from WQPT presented some research from Edelman Berland (a Chicago-based Public Relations firm). The objectives of the Veterans as Strategic Assets (VSA) Initiative is to gain an understanding practices around teaching and hiring veterans, in order to position veterans as a strategic asset for the Illinois Joining Forces (IJF) and the Student Veterans of America (SVA). Edelman Berland conducted a global, 10-minute online survey from January 9 to May 7, 2014. The findings are based on 1,628 responses including 1,469 veterans, 89 employees, and 70 community partners including those in higher education/community college/workplace training non-profits.

As your regional PBS station, WQPT's mission is to act in the public interest not only through our programming, but also by engaging with the communities we service on issues of importance in their lives.


Led by WQPT–Quad Cities PBS, the Embracing Our Military initiative raises awareness of important issues to the military community. It is an on-going community based dialog through 2015. Look for special events and programming each month that promotes this project.
